This is the only explanation for the paper cone speakers found in the doors; so feeble and tinny was the wobble of air that eventually dribbled from the Grundig-powered tape deck.
So that had to be ripped out. Meanwhile the car was apparently left in gear.
A quick browse around eBay, found these JVCs for less than fifteen quid.
And when paired with an old (but decent) pioneer head unit. The sound has improved immeasurably.
Well, it can be heard now.
Other than being able to hear it, the upgrade has improved Lewis’ outlook no end.
